Sunsets in Rovinj, Croatia are simply spectacular. Whether the glowing sphere slips uninterrupted into the horizon or clouds shift the light into varying shades of orange and pink, Rovinj sunsets don’t disappoint!

Because the Rovinj Old Town is situated on a peninsula, there are numerous spots to witness the spectacle. We discovered the absolute best places to watch the sun go down in Rovinj, and now we’re sharing them with you!

The Best Rovinj Sunset Viewing Spots

Sunset in Rovinj, Croatia

During our three weeks in Rovinj – one of the Best Places to Visit in Croatia – we were on a mission to find the best place for viewing sunsets. Someone has to do it, right? We rarely watched from the same place twice in a row, but a few spots quickly became favorites. Our list includes 8 places in Rovinj to watch the sunset – and a helpful map at the end of the post!

Top Tip: Wine goes great with sunsets! If you opt to watch the sunset from the coast (rather than from a cafe or boat), we recommend picking up some Rovinj Wine from Vivoda Winery and a few snacks to enhance your sunset viewing experience!

#1 Sunsets in Rovinj from the Bunker

Rovinj, Croatia Sunset Spots

On the western tip of Rovinj, under the lighthouse (which is below St. Euphemia Church), there is an old, military bunker. The elevated concrete structure provides broad, unobstructed views of the Adriatic Sea.

The pillbox is the perfect place for watching the setting sun, as it is close enough to the shore that we can still hear the sounds of the water on the rocks. As a bonus, the vantage point is fantastic for seeking out pods of dolphins in the distance!

#2 Sunsets from the Rocky Rovinj Beaches

Sunsets in Rovinj, Croatia

One of the best things about Rovinj is the rocky shoreline beaches. These beaches are popular with sunbathers and swimmers during the day…but provide the perfect perch for the evening sunset, too.

Rocky beaches line the southern edge of the Rovinj Old Town from the pier to the western point. The soundtrack of water lapping the shoreline complements the view perfectly.

#3 Rovinj Sunsets from the Pier

Rovinj Sunsets

The Rovinj Pier is, perhaps, the most popular place for watching the sun set. The long breakwater extends directly south from the Old Town, providing ample western-facing spots for sunset watching. The viewpoint encompasses both Katarina Island and the southern side of the Old Town. Get there early to grab the best spots!

#4 Rovinj Harbor Sunsets

Harbor Sunset, Rovinj, Croatia

The edge of the harbor that faces west provides a stunning view of the old town and St. Euphemia bell tower. There are many cafes along the walkway, but plenty of open space to watch the sunset, too. While the view isn’t unobstructed, the bobbing boats in the foreground add a special touch to the scene.

#5 Watch Sunsets from the Rovinj Dock

Hanging around gas pumps for sunset hardly sounds romantic. However, the spot at the western end of the north car park is great for watching the sunset from a different angle.

#6 Sunsets in Rovinj from the Mainland

Rovinj, Croatia best sunset spots

Rather than watching the sunset from the Rovinj peninsula, take in the view from the mainland. From the Old Town, it’s just a short walk or bike ride inland. Walk past the north parking lots, go slightly uphill, take the first street on the left and cut down to the rocks.

The secluded spot has amazing views of town and nearby islands. However, the view of the sunset could be altered by the number/position of large ships in the harbor.

#7 Sunset Cafes in Rovinj, Croatia

Old Town Rovinj, Croatia at night

There are several cafes along the shore between the pier and the beaches, offering drinks with a view, and sometimes live music.

Cafe Bar Molo Grande, Rovinj

While it might not be the most ideal spot for sunsets in Rovinj, because you have to twist in your seat to see and risk having other patrons block the view. However, the cafe is centrally located next to the pier and offers fairly inexpensive drinks…and usually has a fun and lively crowd, too.

Monte Carlo, Rovinj

Located along Svetoga Kriza/Santa Croce, Monte Carlo has a seaside terrace with tables, but higher prices. Still, the view over the water from the waterfront tables is amazing!

Mediterrraneo Bar, Rovinj

Mediterraneo Sunset, Rovinj, Croatia

Mediterrraneo Bar, a place with a chill vibe and bean bags for chairs, is accessed through an archway and down a set of stairs. Unfortunately, since it is tucked into the rocks, only those sitting right along the water get the view.

Valentino, Rovinj

Seagull Sunset, Rovinj, Croatia

The pretentious Valentino has the best view, but we were slightly put off by the uncharacteristic velvet rope and wait-to-be-seated sign that doesn’t jive with the rest of Rovinj’s relaxed atmosphere. During our shoulder season visit, we saw them close their doors for the winter, leaving their prime perch on the rocks open to the public and BYOB’ers like ourselves!

#8 Rovinj, Croatia Sunset Boat Cruise

Sunsets in Rovinj, Croatia

To be honest, we never actually did a sunset cruise – but only because there were so many magnificent spots to watch the sunset from the shoreline in Rovinj!

There are numerous sunset boat cruises in Rovinj, including the popular Mare Panorama Boat and Delfin. Visitors who want a sunset and champagne experience can book their Rovinj sunset cruise in advance online. Find out more!

Top Tip on Watching Rovinj Sunsets

Sunset at Valentino, Rovinj, Croatia

Wherever we watched sunsets in Rovinj, we were never alone. We were always accompanied by tourists, photographers and local fisherman.

We noticed that many tourists often leave the moment right after the sun dips below the horizon. Consider staying around for 15 minutes more when the sky becomes the most brilliant. Linger longer, until almost dark, relishing the last bits of colorful light in the sky.

Oh wow, gorgeous! Really fabulous. Here in Romania been cool and grey during the 2 weeks we’ve been here, completely depressive. We have to get the f*ck out.
I can see you’re loving Croatia.

PS what are temps like this time of year? Sweater weather?

    • We were swimming in the sea a week ago! But, it’s turned a bit grey and rainy since then. We take advantage of the sunshine when we can and yesterday was gorgeous! Should be turning summer where you are heading! What are your plans in SA?
