Independent Travel vs Organized Tours
There is no right or wrong way to travel – and everyone’s travel style is different (and may even evolve over time!). Travel is not a contest and the age-old dispute between the merits of a Tourist versus a Traveler is one we have no interest in debating. Joining a tour or setting out on your own are both incredible ways to travel the world – and you should go the route that best suits you and your situation. To help you decide if a tour is right for you, we've rounded up a list of Organized Tour Resources.
Our Travel Style
Our preferred travel style is Independent Travel, because it works for us. We enjoy the build-up to visiting a place – reading blogs and guidebooks before setting foot in foreign lands – and then discovering a destination with our own eyes at our own pace. It can be a lot of work (sometimes an incredible amount of work) and we make mistakes (sometimes huge mistakes), but it’s part of what we love about traveling.
There are ample online resources for Independent Travelers – and we recommend starting with our Travel Guides Page…and getting a good Guidebook!
Organized Tour Resources
Some travelers would rather leave the nitty-gritty details to a professional – because there are a ton of details to consider, especially when traveling to foreign countries where they don’t speak your language. Tour companies to the rescue! A plethora of tour companies offer a range of tours – from sightseeing to adventure to themed. For solo travelers and small travel groups who want to travel by tour, the key is finding the right travel company for the trip.
Viator
Viator is a phenomenal platform to find the best travel tours! Travelers can find everything from 1-hour tours to 3-week tours in cities around the world. Plus, the site allows you to read fellow traveler reviews to ensure you choose a trip that is right for you!
