Independent Travel vs Organized Tours
There is no right or wrong way to travel – and everyone’s travel style is different (and may even evolve over time!). Travel is not a contest and the age-old dispute between the merits of a Tourist versus a Traveler is one we have no interest in debating. Joining a tour or setting out on your own are both incredible ways to travel the world – and you should go the route that best suits you and your situation. To help you decide if a tour is right for you, we’ve rounded up a list of Organized Tour Resources.
Our Travel Style
Our preferred travel style is Independent Travel, because it works for us. We enjoy the build-up to visiting a place – reading blogs and guidebooks before setting foot in foreign lands – and then discovering a destination with our own eyes at our own pace. It can be a lot of work (sometimes an incredible amount of work) and we make mistakes (sometimes huge mistakes), but it’s part of what we love about traveling.
There are ample online resources for Independent Travelers – and we recommend starting with our Travel Guide page…and getting a good Guidebook!
Organized Tour Resources
Some travelers would rather leave the nitty-gritty details to a professional – because there are a ton of details to consider, especially when traveling to foreign countries where they don’t speak your language. Tour companies to the rescue! A plethora of tour companies offer a range of tours – from sightseeing to adventure to themed. For solo travelers and small travel groups who want to travel by tour, the key is finding the right travel company for the trip.
Contiki provides more than 300 tours on 6 continents for 18- to 35-year-olds. Transportation is included in their packages with a variety of options to tailor your trip. Their motto is #NoRegrets
G Adventures specializes in small-group, adventure tours. They have been leading tours for more than 25 years and group like-minded travelers (including families!) for tours around the world. They also offer Last Minute Travel Deals.
Intrepid Travel started as a small company and 1989 and has grown to offer more than 800 tours worldwide. They focus on responsible travel and small groups, with themed tours such as Cycling, Food and Wildlife.
The award-winning Sandals Resorts have 24 properties in seven countries in the Caribbean. The all-inclusive vacation packages are ideal for the solo traveler, couple or family that simply wants to escape to the tropics.
In business for 70 years, Trafalgar Tours offers 230 tours to popular destinations. They feature local experiences and a variety of trip-style choices.
TourRadar is an online platform that allows travelers to search and compare tours provided by multiple companies. You can search by date, duration, age, style, budget and destination and easily compare tours to find the one that suits you best!
