We had long wanted to visit Laos, but skipped seeing the country on our first trip through Southeast Asia. When we returned in 2017, going to Laos was at the top of our list.
Our first two days in the country were spent on a Laos slow boat on the Mekong River, traveling from Thailand to Luang Prabang. The scenery was mesmerizing - and the two-day trip became a highlight of our time in the country.
The next two weeks were spent in the UNESCO World Heritage City of Luang Prabang. Colonized by the French, there is a striking contrast of Asian and French culture, food and architecture.
