What first attracted us to Macedonia was the quirky capital city of Skopje…but then we learned about Lake Ohrid and knew we had to go there, too!
Skopje was as odd as we heard it was and we never ran out of things to do in the busy city. Lake Ohrid – a town with 365 churches (one for each day of the year, they say) - was much more laid back. Most of our days were spent wandering around the town, walking by the lake and watching the sun set behind the mountains in Albania. We only took one day trip to St. Naum Monastery – which was an eventful day that turned out to be a highlight of our stay. The day ended with us drinking shots at our taxi cab driver’s house – and now we’ll always have a friend in Macedonia!
