While in Southeast Asia for the first time, we almost bypassed Cambodia – but we now know that would have been a mistake! Our last-minute decision to fly to Siem Reap on route from Vietnam to Thailand meant we would only have a week in the country. That was just enough time to thoroughly sightsee Angkor Wat and get a good feel for the city of Siem Reap. We spent one full day at Angkor Wat with a guide – and then returned a second day for sunrise and exploration of more temples on our own. In the Siem Reap city center, we marveled at the lively atmosphere in the markets and drank with fellow tourists on Pub Street. We've since returned to Cambodia and this time to the buzzing and sprawling capital of Phnom Penh.
