Ironically, even though NYC tops our list as the best place to celebrate New Year’s in USA, we don’t necessarily recommend celebrating in Times Square. We think the Times Square New Year’s Eve Party is too crowded and too chaotic – but that’s just us.
While Times Square is touted as one of the best places to go for New Year’s in NYC, we think there are so many better options for your Trip to New York.
NYC’s best hotels, clubs and rooftop restaurants host illustrious New Year parties – complete with dancing, DJs and bubbly drinks. Tickets tend to be on the pricey side, but for the party of the year, it just might be worth it!
Setting off on a New Year’s Eve boat cruise in New York Harbor is fabulous way to spend the evening. Passengers enjoy a delicious dinner, NYC skyline views, dancing and fireworks.
If you are on a Budget NYC Trip or looking for a fun kid-friendly way to celebrate New Year’s in New York, watch the fireworks from Central Park or go to Prospect Park in Brooklyn for their firework display. Central Park is also the site of the 4-mile NYRR Midnight Run, which starts at the same time the Times Square Ball drops.

#14 Madrid, Spain: Best New Year Destinations
On our first year of around-the-world travels, we heard that Madrid was one of the best European cities to visit for New Year’s Eve – so we decided to spend a Week in Spain for our first New Year’s Eve abroad.

What we later learned is that Madrid is one of the best places to visit in Europe for New Year’s Eve for the late-night parties. The party-til-dawn revelry is, in fact, what makes Madrid one of the best New Year’s Eve destinations.
The celebrations start at midnight in the famed Puerta del Sol, where crowds gather to count down to midnight and eat 12 grapes for good luck. It is only after the New Year kisses that the New Year’s Eve party – called cotillon – begins. Madrid’s best nightclubs host parties where you can dance until dawn.
#15 Reykjavik, Iceland: Best NYE Destinations
Looking for unique New Year travel ideas? Consider traveling to Reykjavik, Iceland. Although it can get cold, Iceland in Winter is divine with its snow-covered landscapes, frozen waterfalls and intriguing Icelandic Cuisine.

Standing on the Westminster Bridge over the River Thames, we counted down the final seconds of the year along with Big Ben and then watched the flurry of fireworks.

Trips to Bangkok are always thrilling – the sights, scents and sounds are like nowhere else in the world. Always buzzing, Bangkok also ranks as one of the best New Year’s vacations.
